Tempi Train Collision Press Release

Two years ago today, on February 28, 2023, Greece was shaken by the devastating train collision near Tempi, taking 57 precious lives, many of them young students. This tragedy was not just a deadly accident — it was a direct consequence of a government that has actively neglected its responsibility to protect its citizens, especially the youth. The brutal reality is that many lives were lost because the state allowed its infrastructure to decay, and the truth of what happened — like the horror of 17-year-old girls burning alive and suffocating — was hidden from the public. The negligence, the lies, and the corruption that led to this catastrophe must be exposed and condemned.

In the aftermath, investigations revealed a rail system plagued by years of safety violations, while the slow, inadequate judicial response has only deepened public anger. We are fed up with a government that treats its citizens, especially its youth, as expendable in their pursuit of self-interest. This isn’t just about an accident — it’s about a system that values power over people, that refuses to take responsibility for its failures, and that continues to endanger our future for its own benefit.

Today, over 300,000 Greeks take to the streets, expressing their fury and demanding justice. But our protest doesn’t end in the streets. As Orthodox Christians, we are called to act with justice and truth. Let us go to our churches, light a candle, and offer our prayers for the souls of those who were tragically taken from us, and for their families. We entrust them to God’s eternal care. Αιωνία μνήμη!

Our beloved Greece is at a crossroads. To honor the lives we’ve lost, to protect our children, and to build a future worthy of our nation, we must confront the corruption and complacency that have poisoned our institutions. We all know — Greece needs a radical transformation. We need an end to these cover-ups and the excuses that have held our country back for far too long. We must build a Greece that is safer, stronger, and truly dedicated to the welfare of its people. Justice now!
